• Downspout Glades was open yesterday, for the first time of the season! It's always the last trail on the mountain to open because of the mess of logs and rocks - this time with the added attraction of bulldozer tracks from tree removal. Needless to say it was a blast. • Beaver update: the beaver dam on MWP Pond had to be removed by the Highway Dept. - water levels were threatening to flood Base Rd. But the beavers are still in the Pond, busily rebuilding their dam at the same place. Admirable fortitude...or the myth of Sysyphus? In any case they're doing a great job at clearing brush (11/2/09)
October 2009
• The first snow of the season fell at Bretton Woods on October 13, and the mountain looks ready to open! (current plan is actually for mid-November opening). In other news, there are now two beavers in MWP Pond who can be seen swimming at dusk. They have raised the water level in the pond so much that Peter's Path is under water and Base Rd. will soon be flooded! (10/17/09)
• A busy beaver has taken residence at MWP Pond, cutting trees along Peter's Path and building a dam at the culvert. It can be seen at dusk swimming around the pond and splashing its tail (10/12/09).

Beware of foxes. Foxes are everywhere around MWP and can be a joy to observe, but keep your distances and don't feed them! There have been recent reports of rabid foxes in New Hampshire. If you find a fox to be overly friendly or aggressive please report it to our management company, Great North (603-278 -7584). - The Bretton Woods ski area is ceasing operations on April 12, but are you ready to call it quits? Of course not! Join the MWP Hiking Club on a backcountry ski outing to Tuckerman Ravine on Saturday April 18 (April 19 in case of weather). You don't need to be an expert at all - you can just enjoy the hike to the Bowl and the descent by the leisurely Shelburne trail (rated blue). Contact trip leader Daniel Jacob for more information.
